Removing footnotes easily

For a number of years, the PSG has been using footnotes within our documents, to alert users to drafting alternatives or additional points to consider when tailoring our styles to specific transactional requirements. These footnotes supplement our standalone Guidance Notes for each document and have the advantage of being immediately visible to the drafter within the document at the clauses where some thought is required.

Users tell us that they find the footnotes an extremely useful prompt when drafting documents based on our styles. Some users have said however that the advantages of having these footnotes immediately to hand when drafting is somewhat offset by the time it takes to manually remove them all once the document is ready to be sent out for approval.

The good news is there is a quick and easy way to remove all the footnotes at the same time.

Once you are ready to remove the footnotes, place your cursor at the top of the document and open Advanced Find and Replace. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + H.

In the ‘Find what’ box type ^f. Leave the ‘Replace with’ box blank. Then click on ‘Replace All’ and every footnote will disappear.

You’re welcome.
